About the Family Information Pages
Purpose of the Family Information Pages
The main reason I decided to build these pages is to make it easier for
all the aunts, uncles, and cousins to keep in touch with each other.
People
move, marry, re-marry, have children (biological, step, adopted)--who
can
keep track of it all? The Internet (or World Wide Web) is a perfect way
to keep all this information in one place, easily updated, and easily
accessible
by anyone who wants it, whether you are in Leoti, Kansas, or Lima,
Peru.
Password Protection (How do I get in?)
The Mauck and Applegate home pages are password-protected because they
contain home addresses and phone numbers. When you click on these
links,
you get a window asking for a user name and password. The user name is
is either "maucks" or applegates" (all
lowercase). (The windows tells you which one.) The
password is (my) Grandma's first name, again all in lowercase.
How secure is this? Well, it's certainly better than just leaving
everything
in plain sight. However, it's probably not foolproof. If a determined
computer-whiz
really wants to get in, they probably can do it with some work.
(Easiest
way is to go to the courthouse or cemetery to find Grandma's first
name!)
The best thing it's got going for it is that among the millions of
websites,
who else really cares enough to break into this one? However, if you
are
really paranoid about the world possibly knowing your unlisted
home
number (or birthdate, or anything else), you can send it to me and I
promise
only to divulge it to extended family members who ask for it. If you
don't
want the family to know, don't send it to me, either.
So, what am I to you? X cousins Nth removed
So, what's a second cousin? First cousin once-removed? My
cousin's
child to me? Read on and answer all!
First cousins, second cousins, etc.:
These terms denote cousins of the same generation:
First cousins share a common set of grandparents
Second cousins share a common set of great-grandparents
Etc.
So, the children of first cousins are second cousins.
Once, twice removed:
These terms denote cousins of different generations:
Your first cousin's child is your first cousin once-removed
Your first consin's grandchild is your first cousin twice-removed
Send Your Information To Be Added to the Family Page!
I have at least basic information about everyone, including photos
(except
for a very few). Please continue to send changes and additions to
me. If possible, please send email to:
